A Thalassemia Awareness Seminar and Testing Camp was organized at Government Science College, Veraval, on 21 August 2026 for the first-year students. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Veraval, with the objective of creating awareness among students about Thalassemia, its causes, prevention, and the importance of early testing.
The Principal, Dr. Smita B. Chhag, along with Mr. Kiritbhai Undadkat, Mr. Girishbhai Thakkar, and their team from the Indian Red Cross Society, Veraval, were present at the programme. Students were provided with detailed information about Thalassemia, its hereditary nature, prevention, and the significance of Thalassemia screening. Financial support for the testing camp was provided by Janseva Trust, Indian Rayon, Veraval. Around 65 students underwent Thalassemia testing during the camp.
The programme successfully enhanced awareness among students regarding Thalassemia and the importance of timely screening. The camp provided valuable health-related information and encouraged students to take preventive measures for a healthier future. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Smita B. Chhag, Principal, Government Science College, Veraval, and coordinated by Dr. Sachin M. Sitapara and Dr. Mamta H. Chauhan.
